Zotero 10 is here: discover what's new

Over the course of 2026, Zotero has received three major updates: versions 8, 9 and 10 of the reference manager, with some notable changes, which you will also find explained in the libguide:

Zotero 10
  • Improved advanced search: it is now integrated into the main window to offer more powerful nested queries, merging across collections, accent-insensitive results and much faster full-text searching.
  • Selection of multiple collections and libraries to view and manage all items together.
  • Undo and Redo (Undo/Redo): support has been introduced for undoing and redoing actions (Ctrl + Z or Ctrl + Y, on Windows) in many operations, such as accidental text changes or dragging collections.
  • Batch editing (Batch Editing): Allows you to select multiple items and modify their fields simultaneously from the side panel by clicking on 'Edit Multiple Items…'.
  • Improved PDF reading and read-aloud features.
Zotero 9
  • Read Aloud: PDFs and ePUBs read aloud with natural voices and annotation of the sentences you have heard
  • “Recently Read” collection with syncing of your reading position
  • Direct insertion of annotations into the word processor with automatic active citations
  • New “Added By” and “Modified By” columns in group libraries.
Zotero 8
  • New unified citation dialogue with List and Library modes
  • New reader appearance options with themes (Dark, Snow, Sepia) and custom themes
  • Interface improvements (reordering sections, dragging to the bin, etc.)
