Overton: Tracking the Real-World Policy & Social Impact of Research
Scientific evaluation is shifting toward assessing knowledge transfer and real-world societal application. In line with new research assessment frameworks—such as ANECA's sexennis criteria—the Overton database has become an essential tool for quantifying how academic output shapes society. Indexing over 23 million documents from 193 countries, Overton tracks where your research is cited across non-academic policy documents, including:
- Government & Policy Reports
- Clinical Practice Guidelines
- Regulatory Frameworks & Legislation
- NGO Documents & Think Tank Policy Papers
Why use Overton?
- Beyond Traditional Metrics: Move past standard citation counts by demonstrating direct policy impact.
- Career Advancement: Extract concrete evidence for accreditation, promotion, and grant funding proposals.
- Demonstrate Knowledge Transfer: Fulfill the "Mentions and References" requirements of modern research assessment frameworks.
